Karunanidhi shows "opportunism" on Vijayakant's suspension

Tamil Nadu assembly Speaker D.Jayakumar also stated that the support by Karunanidhi towards Vijayakant is the "height of political opportunitism". Vijayakant was suspended on Feb 2 following a bitter exchange of words in the Assembly with Jayalalithaa. The slamming episode resulted in a walkout by DMDK party members.
With Karunanidhi's latest comment stating that the move was undemocratic, the move validates the point that an enemy's enemy is your friend.
Speaker Jayakumar said the action against Viajayakant was based on the recommendations of the Privileges Committee after viewing the video footage of the assembly proceedings Feb 1. He added that the Privileges Committee comprises of members from DMK, the Communist Party of India-Marxist and the Communist Party of India. They were unanimous of the opinion that the action of Vijayakant was against the traditions of the House.
Jayakumar also commented that Vijayakant was given an opportunity to present his case before the Privileges Committee, but he rejected the chance.
