UP: Cong film actress candidate beaten up, BSP man arrested

Lucknow, Feb 7: It might prove as a major setback for Mayawati and her party - Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) as its candidate Rambhual Nishad was arrested over several charges including rioting. Nishad was taken under custody following an incident where he allegedly thrashed Congress candidate and TV actress - Kajal Nishad during campaigning.

In the FIR against the BSP candidate, he has been charged under Sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC.

The Bhojpuri actress, who was admitted to district hospital for treatment, was discharged on Monday, Feb 6.

Kajal Nishad was beaten up by supporters of BSP candidate Ram Bhulawan Nishad with iron rods, lathis and stones while campaigning in Kakrakhor.

The actress and her supporters suffered injuries and their vehicles were also damaged by the BSP cadre.
