UP Polls: MLA attempts suicide after Mayawati acts tough

Lucknow, Feb 2: A sitting BSP MLA on Wednesday, Feb 1 attempted suicide after Mayawati denied party ticket for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

According to the police, Radhey Lal Rawat, BSP MLA from Hasanganj, attempted to end his life after JP Rawat, a party candidate was replaced by him from Mohan seat in Unnao.

The MLA was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow, after he consumed poison. The condition of the MLA is said to be stable now.

Earlier, Mayawati had denied ticket to Avdesh Verma after he was accused of indulging in corrupt practices. He broke down in front of cameras pledging his loyalty to the party.

Jaleel Khan was also axed by Mayawati in a similar way. He however said that he was sacked on false charges and was not even given a chance to clear his stand.

The first phase of Uttar Pradesh Polls will begin from Feb 4 to Mar 3.
