Liquor tragedy accused sent to judicial custody

Canning (WB), Jan 30: Khonra Badshah alias Nur Islam Fakir, prime accused in one of the worst illicit liquor tragedies in the state, was today produced in a local court which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.

Badshah was produced in the court of Subdivisional Judicial Magistrate, Diamond Harbour, Mou Chatterjee who remanded him to judicial custody. Earlier, Badshah had surrendered in the court of the SDJM on January 16 and had been remanded to CID custody.

Badshah's wife Shakila Bibi alias Sandhya Haldar and seven others were arrested a month after they went missing since the tragedy occured on December 13 last year. Illicit liquor in Sangrampur village in Mograhat in South 24 Parganas district had claimed 172 lives.
