New Delhi, Jan 30: With the Army chief’s age row ticking off a controversy and resulting in a strain between the government and the Army Chief General VK Singh, reports have emerged that the Defence Ministry has written a letter to the Army Adjutant General's branch and advised them to change Singh’s date of birth record.

It has been reported in some media channels that the Defence Ministry has reportedly asked the Army Adjutant General's branch to change the date of birth to May 1950. Singh had earlier dragged the government to court after he filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court over the age row.

After Singh took matter to court, the government had filed a caveat with the apex court explaining their stand over the issue. The matter gained prominence when Singh claimed his year of birth was 1951 while the records in the Ministry of Defence had recorded the same as 1950. The official record of the Army also showed the two different age records.
