Punjab govt announces public holiday on Jan 30
According to official release all offices of the state government, boards and corporations, educational institutions and other offices would remain closed on the day of polling.
Moreover, the offices of the Punjab government situated in Chandigarh Union Territory would also remain closed on day of the election. Meanwhile, the holiday has been announced under Section 25 of Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, which is applicable to banks and financial institutions.
The forthcoming Punjab assembly election will create a massive competition between the ruling Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine and the Congress. Moreover, Peoples Party of Punjab and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are also in the fray with their candidates in various crucial seats.
