PM Manmohan Singh
New Delhi, Jan 24: In an effort to better connect with the masses and make the Prime Minister's office more transparent, PM Manmohan Singh has jumped into the twitter bandwagon marking his debut in the popular microblogging site.

The step comes at a time when TV journalist Pankaj Pachauri took over as Communications Adviser to the Prime Minister. PMO sources has been quoted as saying, "The Prime Minister's work should be in the public domain so that people know that the government is functioning for their benefit."

The PM's Twitter account will have regular updates on the Prime Minister's programmes in near real time. Sources added, "In future, there would be more information available immediately to the media."

Marking his entry, the first tweets by the PMO were on the national awards for bravery function held at Singh's official residence. It also had links to the PM's speech and photos of the function.
