Punjab: Coaches beat athletes for complaining about food
The athletes were beaten during the ongoing 57th National School Athletic games.
According to the athletes, Dipendra Thakur and Vijay Sharma, both the coaches punched and kicked them when they went to them to complain about the poor quality of food.
Komal Rama, one of the participants said that both the coaches were under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.
Reports reveal that students had complained about the poor quality of food earlier too but were threatened by the coaches that they would be disqualified from the event if they protested again.
The athletes were however, convinced by Surinder Singh, Government Senior Secondary School principal, where they are currently staying now.
The reports were however, refuted by KS Murthy, Deputy Secretary of the National School Games Federation that the food was poor in quality.
Calling the whole incident 'sad' Murthy said that a formal complaint was sent to the concerned authoity about the incidence.
