Iraq ban visits to late dictator Saddam Hussein's grave

Saddam Hussain
Baghdad, Jan 23: The Iraqi government has banned individuals visit to the grave of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussain in Salahudin province, who was executed in 2006 after a local court sentenced him to death for crime against humanity.

The ban comes over two years after Iraqi government had prohibited all organised visits of people and schoolchildren to Hussain's grave in view of springing up support for the late former dictator and his banned Baath party. But the visit of individuals to the banned site had continued after the first ban.

The late powerful leader of Iraq was buried along with his two sons and other relatives in his hometown of al-Ouja near Tikrit in Salahudin north of Baghdad.

"The Iraqi cabinet directed authorities of Salahudin province to take all necessary measures to prevent any visit to Saddam Hussein's grave," reports Xinhua.
