UP: CBI to dig CAG report over NRHM scam

New Delhi, Jan 22: The CBI has decided to further investigation the NHRM scam with the CAG report submitted to Uttar Pradesh Governor. The agency officials are waiting for the report.

After receiving the report new preliminary enquiries and cases can be filed. Eight people have been arrested so far. On Monday, The agency will questioned some senior Uttar Pradesh regarding the scam.

A report has been revealed by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) over Uttar Pradesh's NRHM scam. The report stated that Mayawati's government has failed to provide the proper details of expenditure under that scheme. It has been found that the government had spent around Rs 5,000 crore of the Rs 8,657 crore given to the state.

Reports revealed that the entire amount was channelized through non registered society and tenders for procurement of goods worth Rs 1000 crore were given against the open tendering process.

According to the reports, only one officer of the Principal secretary rank made all the purchase decisions. But according to the rules, three officers of secretary rank should be part of the decision making organization.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh criticized the issue and said that "the Central government has been giving money, but the state government has been misusing the funds. Corruption hasn't only happened in NRHM but in MNREGS projects also. This is the time for a change in Uttar Pradesh. I am hoping that there will be change very soon."
