New Delhi, Jan 19: A day after eight BSF jawans were suspended for allegedly stripping and beating a man along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the government on Thursday said a full investigation has been ordered into the matter.

"BSF has taken prompt action to suspend the BSF jawans involved in the incident and full investigations have been ordered into the matter," Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs, said while reacting to the incident.

A nearly 5-minute video, showing a man being stripped, kicked and beaten by three to four personnel donning BSF-style dark green fatigues in West Bengal's Murshidabad district along the Indo-Bangla border, was aired yesterday on some channels. By late evening yesterday itself, the BSF had suspended eight personnel.

The suspended personnel have been identified as Constables Virender Tiwari, V S Victor, Dhananjay Kumar, Anand Singh, Amar Jyoti, Sanjeev Kumar, Suresh Chand and Sunil Kumar.

According to reports, the person shown being beaten up in the video is suspected to be a Bangladeshi national and was reportedly indulging in cow smuggling along the Indo-Bangla border which runs along Murshidabad.
