Declare Netaji b'day as Deshprem Divas: Left Front

Kolkata, Jan 17: Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Tuesday urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take up a proposal with the Centre for declaring January 23 as Deshprem Divas to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

"We hereby request you to take up the matter with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for declaring the date as deshprem divas," Bose said in a statement here.

He also hoped that the state government would observe the date as 'deshprem divas' in the state with due solemnity and honour "like last year". The CPI-M leader thanked Banerjee for making arrangements to observe the date "as I have come to know from (Forward Block veteran) Ashok Ghosh".
