UP: Priyanka Gandhi helps Rahul to defeat Maya, Akhilesh

Lucknow, Jan 16: Priyanka Gandhi started following the path shown by her mother and Congress President, Sonia Gandhi as she stepped into the Uttar Pradesh battleground to gear up her brother, Rahul Gandhi who has been struggling to win power in the state.

Priyanka reached Babuganj on Monday, Jan 16 and will visit Rahul Gandhi's constituency - Amethi and Rae Bareilly along with other parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka Gandhi will attend meetings with Congress party workers though it was reported earlier that no meeting and rallies were scheduled for her in the state. Priyanka will stay in Uttar Pradesh till Jan 18.

Here it can be recalled that Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, Akhilesh Yadav along with Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) supremo and the present Chief Minister of the state, Mayawati reportedly are the most prominent competitors for Rahul Gandhi.

Mayawati grabbed the power in the state government for the last four consecutive times and once again she may win this assembly election with her age-old caste-card.

Meanwhile, media has been continuously observing the movements of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi. Coming from political families, they are pitted against each other in a climax-filled fight to the finish.

Both are foreign educated and raised in an urban set up, but are wooing rural voters with rustic charm. There are reports that the real war is between Akhilesh and Rahul in UP. While Rahul is a 41-year-old bachelor, Akhilesh is 38 and the father of three.

Now, it will be interesting to see how Priyanka Gandhi's entry in the battlefield would change Rahul's cards.
