Italian liner disaster: 201 Indians rescued, 1 still missing
Media reports claim that at least six people have been killed and over 60 injured.
According to Sunil Aggarwal, First secretary, Indian Embassy, Rome, the Indians were all crew members and rescue workers are still searching in the half sunk Italian cruise ship for 15 missing people including the lone Indian.
Earlier, the Indian Ambassador to Italy, Debabrata Saha had claimed that all 300 Indians aboard were safe and there were no casualties among them.
The mishap took place on Jan 14 night near the island of Giglio, off the Tuscan coast, after the Costa Concordia, one of the biggest ships in the Costa cruise fleet with 1,500 cabins, had left the port of Civitavecchia and was sailing north to Savonathe.
Meanwhile, the Captain of the ship was arrested on Jan 15. He has been accused of manslaughter and abandoning the ship before all, more than 4,200 passengers and crew had been evacuated.
