UP: Salman Khan to pay Rs 44 lakh to release 250 prisoners
Concerned officials have been quoted as saying, "Most of these prisoners are petty criminals and majority of them have completed their jail sentence but cannot be released because they have not paid the fine amount imposed by the court at the time of conviction."
"Their fine amount ranges from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 and they have overstayed in the jail by two to five years because they could not afford to pay the amount," added the officials.
Here it can be recalled that recent media reports also claimed that Salman Khan would campaign for Congress for the upcoming UP assembly election.
Reports reveal that Congress has already cashed in star power in a bid to woo voters. The decision was declared at Congress core committee meet in Agra.
The list submitted by Congress for campaign includes the likes of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan.
Apart from Salman Khan, actor Raza Murad will campaign for Congress, while Congress MP Raj Babbar, will campaign for hopeful candidates.
