NRHM scam: 3 accused sent to 14-day judicial custody

Ghaziabad, Jan 13: A CBI court on Friday sent three more accused in the mutli-crore NRHM scam to 14-day judicial custody. Naresh Grover, an engineer in the UP Jal Nigam; Kartar Singh, a clerk in the Health Department; and R K Singh, who owns a medical store and also works in the Health Department, were presented before special CBI judge A K Singh who sent them to judicial custody till January 27.

The court rejected CBI's request for the trio's remand as they were already interrogated by CBI. The case relates to alleged irregularities in utilisation of about Rs 10,000 crore of Central funds allocated under the NRHM to Uttar Pradesh.

The NRHM scam surfaced after murders of two chief medical officers last year. As many as 38 persons, including a former UP Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, are accused in the scam.
