Supreme Court rejects petitions seeking reschedule of polls

Supreme Court of India
New Delhi, Jan 13: The Supreme Court on Friday, Jan 13 rejected the petitions seeking rescheduling of elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice SH Kapadia made it clear that it was not for the court to decide on the election schedule.

Meanwhile, petitioner C P Vyas had sought a rescheduling of the balloting on grounds that it clashed with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination as well as municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh besides severe cold in Uttarakhand.

Crucial Uttar Pradesh polls will go on from Feb whereas Uttarakhand Assembly elections will be held on Jan 30.
