Jayalalithaa
Chennai, Jan 13: Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu refuted claims that she and former Chief Minister of TN, Dr MG Ramachandran ate beef as claimed by Tamil bi-weekly Nakkheeran.

“Dr MGR never ate beef in his lifetime. I too have never eaten beef in my life so far. The statement that I cooked and served beef is highly derogatory and intended to malign my character and reputation," she said in her petition against RR Gopal, editor of the magazine and A Kamaraj, associate editor.

After the petition came up before a division bench comprising of Justice TS Sivagnanam and Chief Justice MY Eqbal on Thursday, Jan 12, Gopal's counsel said that the editor 'has realised his mistake' and soon a regret message would be published on the cover page of the Magazine's next issue.

Jayalalithaa in her petition sought punishment for Kamaraj and Gopal for allegedly publishing false news on her eating habits and directing that the magazine did not print anything against her, without her permission.

Meanwhile, the editor and associate editor were granted anticipatory bail by Justice MM Sundresh on the condition that the magazine abstained from publishing any disparaging remarks against the chief minister.
