Moneyspeak; Whopping Rs 13.5 cr seized in poll-bound UP
Sources have claimed that Rs 8.5 crore of the total amount seized is unaccounted for. The cash was seized from vans of private security agencies. It has to be remembered that this huge stash of cash was seized three weeks before UP goes to polls.
Various political parties are on an appeasement drive to woo voters with poll sops in the state. The election result in the state is touted to become a game changer in the power politics at the Centre.
The Election Commission had earlier sounded a warning on the use of black money in elections. In a letter dated Dec 26 to all political parties, they had stated, "In order to maintain the purity of elections and in particular to bring transparency in the process of elections, it is advised that political parties avoid transactions in cash and should instruct their office bearers, officials, agents and candidates not to carry huge cash during the ensuing process of elections."
