Rs 1.33 cr goof-up: Team Anna's Shanti Bhushan found guilty

Lucknow, Jan 6: Crucial Team Anna member and former Law Minister, Shanti Bhushan has been found guilty in a stamp duty evasion case. Mr Bhushan has been accused of evading stamp duty worth Rs.1.33 crore while purchasing his ancestral property in Allahabad in 2010.

Now, the former law minister has been slapped with a fine Rs 27 lakh. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh authorities had sent a notice to Mr Bhushan asking him to pay the amount by Apr 22, 2011.

However, Bhushan had overruled all allegations against him. After the lower court's order on Jan 6, Mr Bhushan also claimed that he will move the High Court challenging the case of stamp duty evasion.

Calling the duty collector's statement as "baseless allegations", Bhushan earlier had said that according to the deed all stamp duty was paid accurately.

However, such revelation at this time when Team Anna's Lokpal mission is sinking and Anna Hazare's health has been deteriorating, indeed stained their fight against corruption.
