Chhattisgarh gets New Year gift - 9 new districts!

Raipur, Jan 2: With the birth of the New Year, the people in the state of Chhattisgarh saw the birth of nine new districts on Jan 1, 2012. The total number of districts now stands at 27, stated Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Speaking to reporters, Raman Singh said that the new districts were a new year gift to the people and added that the move will speed up the pace of development in the area. The new districts have been named Sukma, Kondagaon, Balod, Bemetara, Baloda Bazar, Gariaband, Mungeli, Surajpur and Balrampur.

The district of Sukma has been carved out of Chhattisgarh's worst Maoist affected Dantewada district; while Kondagaon has been carved out of insurgency-hit Bastar district.
