West Bengal CID arrests 3 accused in hooch tragedy case

West Bengal
Kolkata, Dec 26: The West Bengal criminal investigation department (CID) has arrested three prime accused in the hooch tragedy case that claimed 173 lives earlier this month. The department revealed that Khora Badshah, kingpin of the trade is still absconding.

The victims died after consuming illegal liquor at shanties near Sangrampur railway station in West Bengal. Nurjahan Bibi - the wife of prime suspect Noor Islam Sheikh alias Khora Badshah, Bakkar alias Bakreswar and Ghulam Rasool alias Chotu were arrested by the special CID team during the early hours on Sunday.

Nurjahan revealed that Khora had paid some Trinamool local leaders to operate his den in Mograhat block. She also said that they used to pay some CPM leaders earlier. Adding to that, she said these pay offs were separate from bribes which Khora had given to the local police and excise department officials, CID source claimed.

Trinamool and CPM leaders denied the accusations. “None of our party workers has any connection with them,” said Abu Taher, Trinamool’s secretary general.
