Secy's panel looking into airlines problems: Ajit Singh

"We have constituted a Committee of Secretaries. They, I think, met yesterday or day before. I have to see their report. Then the [Group of] ministers will meet," Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said.
RLD chief Ajit Singh is new Civil Aviation Minister. He was responding to a question whether government was planning any bailout package for the beleaguered national carrier.
The new Civil Aviation Minister said the Committee of Secretaries was also looking into the problems being faced by the airline industry and would suggest measures. "They are looking into ATF and many other issues," he said.
Singh said, as he was new to the ministry, he was still trying to understand the issues concerning aviation sector and its problems.
"Let me understand the issues, what is happening, what is not," he said.
The Indian air carriers have been asking government help to deal with the problems being faced by them, including high taxes on jet fuel.
