After Jaya, Chandy issues ad over Mullaperiyar row

In a half-page advertisement that were published in leading dailies, Chandy said: "We want no incident to cast a shadow on our relationship. We assure that the Kerala government will do everything possible to protect the dignity and safety of Tamils in Kerala."
"I am sure that the government of Tamil Nadu is equally committed to protect and provide safety to people from Kerala in Tamil Nadu. I appeal to all to maintain peace and restraint and refrain from emotional acts that affect peace and harmony," Chandy said.
The two states have been witnessing a turmoil ever since the Mullaperiyar issue erupted.
Chandy talking about the statement "Water for Tamil Nadu, Safety for Kerala" said that the dam's safety was a cause of concern for Kerala, while it also served as a source of water for Tamil Nadu.
J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu, a week ago had issued a full page advertisements in state's leading dailies that talked about the measures TN had taken to strengthenting the dam.
"If the water level is increased from 136 ft, these resorts will get submerged in water. This is also cited by some as the possible reason for the plea to decommission the Mullaperiyar dam," said Jayalalithaa in the advertisement.
Tamil Nadu assembly in a resolution that was passed on Dec 15 had said that it would not let go off its right over the Mullaperiyar Dam.
