On the Koodankulam issue, Congress MPs asked the Prime Minister to take some steps to operationalise the power plant. They told Manmohan that several places in Tamil Nadu were facing power cuts as long as five hours a day, hence, requested to operationalise the power plant.
"We told them that power shortage can be met with if the new plant is operationalised at the earliest. The Prime Minister told us that the plant once launched will provide maximum share to the state," Virudhunagar MP Manick Tagore told the media. During the meeting, the MPs told Manmohan that "people want the plant to be operationalised."
President APJ Abdul Kalam had expressed satisfaction over the plant and claimed that the plant has been constructed with highest safety standards.
While addressing a seminar, he had said, "It is established that this plant is equipped with the latest technologies when it comes to safety...the structure of the plant has been made with highest safety standards."
