Home Minister P Chidambaram refuses BJP's charges

Citing a newspaper report, BJP members alleged that the minister had misused his position to withdraw three FIRs against SP Gupta, a businessman, who was accused of cheating and forgery. The opposition has demanded his resignation over the charges.
BJP forced Lok Sabha to adjoun for the last two days over the allegation charges against Chidambaram. BJP leader Yashwant Singh has asked Manmohan Singh to dismiss Chidambaram from his position. Chidambaram claimed that he had represented SP Gupta about 10 years ago and didn't represent him after joining the ministry.
"The home ministry has never said that the case should be withdrawn. The home minister categorically wrote on the file that only the advice of the law ministry should be forwarded to the Delhi government and no advice should be given from the ministry of home affairs. There was no question of conflict of interest," he said.
