Chilkur Balaji temple
Hyderabad, Dec 14: With the rupee falling to an all-time low compared to the US dollar, it is almost certain that what we as Indians need is some divine intervention to ward us off the economic crisis we are slowly sliding into. Towards this cause, special pujas are being conducted at the famous Chilkur Balaji temple on Dec 14 to save people from the impact of the economic crisis.

The fact that a majority of the people in Andhra Pradesh harbour the US dream and eventually land up there is a reason for more worry in such times.

As part of the special pujas, thousands of devotees will chant the Runa Vimochana Nrusimha Stotram meant to invoke the Lion God. The suggestion for the same was made by head priests Dr M V Soundara-rajan and C S Gopalakrishna after they said that this invocation will ease the dollar crunch and will facilitate the recovery of money from defaulters.

Elaborating on the temple's connection with the worldwide financial turmoil, a temple official, Rangarajan S. Chilkur stated, "A temple is a place to offer prayers for the well-being of humanity. As this is a crisis that will have a spiraling effect on the common man, hence, we are having the prayer."

He added, "This temple was featured in the Wall Street Journal on December 31, 2007, showing that Lord Balaji is the saviour when such turmoils occur. Also, the Chilkur temple was the first one to prescribe a handloom dress code for devotees to help the weavers. It has always responded to social causes, and, hence, this unique prayer.”

A repeat of the same special puja will be conducted on Dec 16, 2011 for the whole day.
