BJP to move adjournment motion on black money today

New Delhi, Dec 14: With the Lokpal issue rocking the Parliament, the latest weapon in the Opposition's armoury is the black money issue. An adjournment motion on this issue is likely to come up for discussion in the Lok Sabha today (Dec 14).

Senior BJP leader LK Advani will move the motion. The BJP has been very vocal about the issue from the very start and was backing a motion since the winter session of Parliament began two weeks ago.

The BJP's motion is understood to be mildly worded following an agreement with BJP and the government. According to government sources, the term 'government failure' will be replaced by 'situation arising out of' (with regards to black money stashed abroad). The adjournment motion will be without the sense of government censure and a voting is likely to take place on a neutral motion.

Sushma Swaraj, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha commented that the wordings were altered for the purpose of the smooth functioning of the Parliament. The decision was made jointly by members of the party.

The black money issue has been a burning topic for a while now with the BJP raking up the issue since the last Lok Sabha elections. The matter gained further prominence when the French government gave out the names of 700 Indians who held Swiss bank accounts. The BJP wants the government to make these names public and wants these people penalised.

The BJP had earlier given declarations to the presiding officers that they do not have any black money stashed abroad.
