Crucial bills to be cleared in cabinet meet today

New Delhi, Dec 13: The Union Cabinet will meet on Tuesday, Dec 13 to decide on crucial bills, that is; the Judges Accountability Bill, Food Security Bill, Citizens Charter and the Whistleblowers Bill, that the government is keen on bringing up, before the parliament session ends on Dec 22.

The government is already under pressure to bring out a strong Lokpal Bill and is chalking out a strategy for the same, said sources.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet key UPA allies today evening after the Cabinet meeting. Sources reveal that the government is keen on taking views of all the parties over the Lokpal issue before he leaves for a three-day trip to Russia on Dec 15.

“No one can doubt the intentions of the government on the Lokpal bill. In fact, the special Cabinet meeting next Monday has been convened after the all-party meeting because the government wants to incorporate suggestions of all parties in the bill. This will also ensure that the bill is passed smoothly in Parliament in the current session itself,” said a top government functionary.
