Assam CM thrashes Anna; alleges Cong slamming real motive

Guwahati, Dec 13: With anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and his fight against corruption getting bouquets and brickbats, the Congress is not pleased with the mass nature of the protest and the attention Anna is receiving. The added fact that Team Anna is turning no stone unturned to defame the Congress is also a valid reason to worry. The latest person to slam Anna's movement is Assam CM Tarun Gogoi.

Gogoi has stated that Anna was deviating from his original intention and targetting attacks on Cong leaders. He added that Anna was siding with the Opposition parties against the Centre rather than focussing on an effective Lokpal Bill.

Gogoi has been quoted as saying to mediapersons, "This is not the only anti-corruption. The main purpose is to oust the Congress government, UPA 2 government. That is why Anna Hazare is attacking Sonia Gandhi, attacking Prime Minister, attacking Rahul Gandhi. What is this?"

Gogoi also accused Hazare of jumping the gun by making comments on the Congress before the parliamentary panel reviews the report on the Lokpal Bill. The panel consists of members of the Opposition parties. Gogoi commented, "It was the recommendation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee. It consists of all the members belonging to all. It can be discussed, it is not a government draft bill, finally the government has to take a decision. But, as it is today, it is a bill."

Gogoi also revealed plans to bring in the Lokpal Bill in Assam by next year. He said, "Assam will also bring in the Lokpal within three months say by March we will have an effective our own bill also, at least by next session."
