Islamabad, Dec 11: Suspected militants set ablaze nine NATO oil tankers in the restive Balochistan province of Pakistan on Sunday though there were no reports of casualties, security officials said. The tankers were intercepted by the armed men in Bolan district of Balochistan, officials of the Levies militia said.

The vehicles were going to the southern port city of Karachi following Pakistan’s decision to close NATO supply routes to protest a cross-border NATO air strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. Law enforcement and fire brigade personnel reached the site and put out the fire.

NATO supply vehicles have begun returning to Karachi from border crossings in Balochistan after Chief Minister Aslam Raisani decided they should not remain in the province. Hundreds of oil tankers and container trucks were parked in different parts of Balochistan after the NATO supply routes were closed.
