Mullaperiyar dam issue: DMDK to hold demonstrate on Dec 14

Chennai, Dec 11: Actor politician Vijaykanth's DMDK today said it would stage a demonstation at Theni on December 14 protesting against the Centre remaining a 'mute spectator" over the controversial Mullaperiyar dam issue.

"The Centre is remaining a mere spectator, while tensions are building up on both sides (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) over the Mullaperiyar issue. A team authorised by the Supreme Court will be arriving to check the dam's safety on December 23," said Vijaykant said in a statement.

Stating that Mullaperiyar dam is a symbol of Indian integration, he alleged that the Centre was remaining a mute spectator while enmity is developing between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Theni is one of the five districts in Tamil Nadu that receives water from the Mullaperiyar dam.
