2G: Raja sent to jail but govt still defends Chidambaram

Supporting Chidambaram, present Telecom Minister, Kapil Sibal put all the blame on NDA. Speaking at a press conference in Delhi on Saturday, Dec 10, Sibal said, "The government strongly opposes the attacks on Chidambaram. NDA are trying to malign and defame him."
However, the UPA government's unconditional support to Chidambaram shows a sharp contrast with its attitude towards Raja (a minister of UPA's ally - DMK) who was forced to resign as Telecom Minister and later arrested over the second generation telecom spectrum scam.
Trying to remind the people about the records which show Finance Ministry's unawareness about any allocation by the Telecom Ministry on Jan 10, 2008, Sibal overruled all reports that the then Union Finance Minister, Chidambaram had held any meeting with Raja discussing the price of the spectrum in 2008.
However, Chidambaram's future as Cabinet Minister will be decided in a week or two as the Patiala House court allowed Janata Party Chief Subramanian Swamy to depose as a witness and present the case against the Union Home Minister in the 2G spectrum case on Dec 17.
