Rupee down 4 paise against US dollar in early trade

Indian Rupee-US dollar
Mumbai, Dec 7: The Indian rupee fell marginally by 4 paise to Rs 51.45 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today amid increased demand for the American currency from importers. However, a higher opening in the equity market capped the rupee losses.

Dealers said dollar demand from importers mainly weighed on the rupee sentiment, but a higher opening in the equity market limited the losses. The rupee had lost 21 paise to close at Rs 51.41/42 against the American currency in the previous session on Monday on hefty dollar demand from importers amid weakness in local stocks.

The BSE benchmark Sensex rose by 123.91 points, or 0.74 per cent, to 16,929.24 in opening trade today.
