Parl Panel adopts Lokpal report; to be tabled on Dec 9

New Delhi, Dec 7: The Parliamentary Standing Committee headed by Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday (today) formally adopted the draft of Lokpal bill. Sixteen dissenting notes have been submitted along with the Lokpal report. Sources said that the Lokpal report will be tabled in the two houses on Dec 9.

Meanwhile, the adopted Lokpal report will be sent to the Union Cabinet for approval. The standing committee meeting, three congress MPs namely Deepdas Musnhi, Meenakshi Natrajan and PJ Thomas demanded the inclusion of CBI, Group C and Group D under the ambit of Lokpal.

According to a source, the dissent notes were submitted by members of the main opposition BJP, the CPI-M, RSP and the Samajwadi Party.

However, Team Anna has already opposed the proposed Lokpal report and is planning to launch a day-long fast on Dec 11 in Jantar Mantar.
