Mullaperiyar: Vaiko to go on one day fast tomorrow

Chennai, Dec 7: Protesting against Kerala's stand to construct a new dam in place of Mullaperiyar, MDMK leader Vaiko will stage a day-long fast at Theni district tomorrow, the party said here today.

Vaiko will stage the fast protesting Kerala's "injustice" in trying to build a dam in place of the existing structure, 'which is the livelihood of South Tamil Nadu," a press release from the MDMK headquarters here said.

He will also undertake a campaign from Madurai tonight which will end at Theni district, it added.

Kerala is pressing the Centre for a new dam citing threat to it in view of recent tremors and increase in water level.

However, Tamil Nadu has maintained that the dam is safe and has asked the Prime Minister to advise Kerala not to create panic among its people.
