Justice Katju slams media on Dev Anand coverage

Justice Katju said that media should cover social and economic issues which have greater importance than a bollywood actor's death and termed such media coverage as "lack of sense of priority".
Moreover, Katju urged media to cover farmer suicide issues in India. He said that 2.5 lakh farmers had committed suicide in the last fifty years and almost all main stream media are simply ignoring those issues. He praised The Hindu Senior Jounalist P Sainath's commendable work on burning issues related to farmers suicide in Indian villages.
"The country is facing several socio economic problems, there is poverty, price rise and incidents like farmers' suicides. Isn't all that more important," Katju asked. He said that country's people had high expectation from media and time has come to play their original role and corrected themselves.
