RTI unearths 42 lakh bogus ration cards in Maharashtra

A PIL in the Bombay High Court has alleged that grains meant for the poor are being misused by the people who have bogus ration cards. The petition was registered by a member of Anna Hazare's anti-corruption NGO.
Ashish Gaikwad, lawyer of the petitioner said, "we want strict action against the officers and fair price shop owners, it is not just about cancellation, the losses to the government should also be recovered."
According to reports, the investigation is incomplete as the Tahsildar's office didn't provide the necessary documents and the cards were issued without following government directives.
However, no action was taken against the concerned officers. The Bombay High court has asked the state to file a detailed affidavit before Jan 13, so that action can be taken against the officials.
