I-T sleuths to go on nation wide strike from Monday

New Delhi, Dec 3: Income Tax (I-T) officials are all set to go on a nation-wide strike from Monday, Dec 4 owing to shortage of manpower at the staff and officer levels, said Rajesh D Menon, secretary general, I-T gazzetted officials association.

Officials have long been demanding that more than 750 plus vacant posts for I-T assistant commissioners be filled and also demanded that a cadre reconstitute and review exercise be conducted.

"The department is facing acute shortage of manpower at the staff and officer levels, but the finance ministry is not bothered," said Rajesh D Menon.

"We held symbolic protests so as not to hamper work. But from December 5, we have asked officers not to conduct any raid. More than 13,000 officials will abstain from work," said Baswa Nand, Delhi unit secretary general.
