Bhopal gas tragedy: Protest held by kins and activists

Bhopal gas Tragedy
Bhopal, Dec 2: The families of the victims and activists on Friday staged a protest on the 27th anniversary of the Bhopal gas tragedy. Some of them have decided to meet Chattisgarh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Even after 26 years of the tragedy, the people haven't received adequate relief from the government. The kins have threatened for a rail roko protest on Saturday.

Last year, the Supreme court had rejected the CBI's curative petition over the issue. CBI had pleaded the Supreme court for seeking a review on its 1996 judgement that had diluted charges against the accused from culpable homicide not amounting to murder to criminal negligence and there was a lighter punishment for all the accused.

However, last year, the Bhopal court had sentenced seven former Carbide executives.

Moreover, the Delhi court allowed the CBI to seek extradition of Warren Anderson, chairman of Union Carbide Corporation from the United States, an accused in the Bhopal tragedy case. He was declared as a proclaimed offender by the Bhopal court in 1992.
