5.8 intensity quake strikes Nicobar islands

London, Dec 1: An earthquake struck Nicobar islands on Wednesday. According to the US Geological Survey, a 5.8 magnitude quake was recorded at Nicobar islands that occurred at a depth of one kilometre.

No tsunami warning was issued in the aftermath of the earthquake. The quake was centered 74 km (46 miles) east-southeast of the islands.

Situated in the south-east of the Bay of Bengal, the Nicobar Islands comprises 22 large and small islands, of which only 12 have inhabitants.
