FDI crisis: DMK backs Govt; to oppose adjournment motion

New Delhi, Nov 30: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday (today) received a major breakthrough on FDI in retail issue in all allies party meeting when DMK pledged that it will not vote against the government. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee's TMC is yet to make up its mind.

Moreover, without the support of its major alliances; DMK and TMC, the UPA may not be able to defeat the main opposition party, BJP's adjournment motion. FDI in retail has become the bone of contention not only with the opposition but also with the allies of the government.

Earlier, BJP had made it clear that it will not let the Parliament function without a rollback in the proposal of the FDI in retail.

The Congress has so far said that there is no question of putting its decision to vote but the seven days of continued parliament paralysis could force the ruling party to accept an adjournment motion to break the logjam.
