Sherry Rehman named Pakistan's new envoy to US

The appointment comes a day after Hussain Haqqani was forced to resign over his suspected involvement in a memo handed over to the US. Rehman's appointment was announced by the Prime Minister's office soon after she met Yousuf Raza Gillani on Wednesday (today) afternoon.
Rehman, 50, had been a journalist and a member of the federal cabinet. Earlier, on March, 2009, she had resigned from the office of Information Ministry following differences with President Asif Ali Zardari over the government's handling of relations with media.
The new envoy to US, Rehman was elected to the National Assembly or lower house of Parliament twice, in 2002 and 2007, on reserved seats for women.
