Live-in relationship turns sour; partner accused of rape

Mumbai, Nov 23: A woman filed a case of rape against her live-in partner after the victim learnt that her live-in partner, Viral Parekh (31), was already married. Meanwhile, based on her complaint, cops arrested the accused.

The victim claimed that Parekh forced her to get an abortion three times. The victim, who hails from Hyderabad, came to her place for two times for the abortion. When she refused the third time, Parekh allegedly mixed an emergency contraceptive with her medication, causing her to miscarry. Parekh and his partner both worked in Dubai and shared an apartment since 2006.

Earlier, in 2010, Parekh had come to Mumbai for his sister's wedding and tied the knot in accordance with his family's wishes. Later, when he returned to Dubai, he did not inform the woman about his marriage and instead, continued his relationship with her.

A couple of months later, Parekh decided to move out. When the victim asked Parekh why he was not marrying her, he said that he could not as they were from different religions. He told her about his marriage and allegedly said that he would divorce his wife and marry the victim, a police officer said.

Later, the victim discussed the issue with her family members and they approached Parekh's family, asking them to tell Parekh to marry her. Parekh's family refused to accept the relationship. The victim then lodge a complaint with the Borivli police. Moreover, the police also recovered nude pictures of the victim from Parekh's laptop. When the victim learnt that her live-in partner was married, she accused him of rape.
