CBI gets two more months to probe NRHM funds scam

Lucknow Nov 22: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday granted two months more time to the CBI for completing its probe into the alleged scam in the NRHM funds in the office of CMO, Lucknow, Family Welfare.

The court also directed the state government to provide all required documents to the CBI regarding the investigation.

A division bench comprising Justices Pradip Kant and Rituraj Awasthi passed this order on an application moved by CBI, seeking three months more time to complete the inquiry.

Earlier on July 27, the court had handed over the investigation of the said scam to the CBI and directed it to complete it within three months.

The CBI had later moved the application for more time on expiry of the period of three months.

After the murder of CMO B.P Singh in April this year, two FIRs were filed under charges of embezzlement and certain irregularities in CMO Lucknow family welfare office in implementation of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) funds.

The alleged scam was earlier investigated by the local police and thereafter on a PIL, the high court had handed over the investigation to the CBI.

Two CMOs Dr Vinod Arya and Dr B P Singh were murdered in October 2010 and April 2011 respectively and later deputy CMO, Dr Y S Sachan was also found dead under mysterious circumstances in the district jail, Lucknow in June 2011.
