9 raped, 19 commit suicide everyday in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, Nov 22: Nothing could be more shocking and insulting for the Madhya Pradesh government when a recent research report showed that at least 9 women are being raped and 19 people commit suicide daily in the state.

The shocking stat of rape and suicide surfaced when the Home Minister, Uma Shankar Gupta on Tuesday, Nov 22 responded to a query by Congress member Ramniwas Rawat. The report shows that 2,500 women were raped and among that, 233 women were gang-raped.

Explaining the stats of suicide rate in the state, Mr Gupta informed that 5,700 people committed suicide in the first ten months of 2011, averaging to 19 per day.

Followed by the state capital - Bhopal with 56 rape cases in last nine months, Baitul district tops the chart with 64 rape cases.

Followed by the states financial capital - Indore with 311 cases of suicide, Jabalpur and Satna districts lead the suicide list with 403 suicides each.
