Tremors felt in Assam measuring 5.9 in richter scale

Guwahati, Nov 21: With Assam just recovering from the deadly earthquake in February, fresh tremors were felt in Assam and adjoining areas. An earthquake measuring 5.9 in the richter scale has hit Assam and areas close by. The epicenter of the quake is believed to be at at 24.947°N, 95.226°E in Myanmar, according to the US Geological Survey. According to preliminary reports, the tremors were felt in Manipur and Nagaland as well.

The seven northeastern states; Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are considered the sixth most earthquake-prone belt in the world by seismologists.

The tremors were felt on Monday morning at around 8:46am and was felt across the north eastern region. The quake was felt in parts of Bangladesh, Myanmar and even parts of West Bengal.

There are no reports of casualties and damages.
