Mayawati's 4-state proposal to be debated in UP Assembly

Lucknow, Nov 21: Uttar Pradesh Assembly has been adjourned till 12.20 pm over an uproar by the opposition parties for the resignation of Chief Minister Mayawati. Opposition parties demanded the resignation of Maywati over her proposal to divide the state into four.

The Samajwadi party, BJP and Congress have opposed the proposal. The Samajwadi party accuses Mayawati for not consulting stakeholders before drafting the bill and has said that the government has failed on all counts.

Soon after Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi delivered a speech on Maya's land for the upcoming elections, Mayawati came up with a proposal to divide the state into four parts, diverting from her earlier proposal of trifurcation of the state.

The BSP government thinks that if it were a country, then it would be the 5th most populous country in the world. when Uttarkhand was separated from Uttar Pradesh, there was a fear that it may collapse. Despite having political instability, the state is progressing rapidly. The annual growth rate of Uttarkhand is 10.8 percent whereas UP's annual growth is 5.4 percent.

According to Mayawati's proposal, Uttar Pradesh will be divided into Purvanchal or Eastern UP, Central UP or Awadh Pradesh, Harit Pradesh and Bundelkhand.

The Cabinet has already cleared the proposal over the division. The BJP has referred it as a political drawback. Samajwadi party has also strongly opposed the proposal and it has decided that it will vote against the resolution. Even BJP and Congress have decided to oppose and they wants a second State Reorganisation Commission to be constituted.

Meanwhile, Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal is the only party expected to support Maya's proposal as the party was campaigning for the creation of Harit Pradesh.
