Bangalore, Nov 19: The Food and Civil Supplies Department is set to receive online ration card applications from Saturday. Around 30 lakh bogus cards have been identified from both rural and urban areas.

While addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shobha Karandlaje declared that urban families, which do not have ration cards can submit their applications online. People in the rural area need to provide information through computers of their jurisdictional gram panchayat offices. This time, printed and handwritten forms will not be accepted, only online forms would be considered, said the Minister.

The applicants can log on to the websites to confirm whether they own valid ration cards, the Minister added.

However, the online submission of applications will provide proper submission of data, processing and prompt delivery of ration cards. The applicant will get an acknowledgement via e-mail or SMS once the application is submitted. The jurisdictional food inspector will make a spot visit to verify the authenticity of the details provided for the cards, said BA Harish Gowda, secretary of Food and Civil Supplies.

Meanwhile, the department has not fixed any deadline for availing the new ration cards, the Minister further said.
