Mumbai, Nov 15: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena on Monday reacted strongly on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement in Uttar Pradesh.

While addressing a rally at Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul had said that "For how long would UP youths go and beg in Maharashtra".

Responding to Rahul's comment, MNS chief Raj Thackeray said he wanted to know how such situation came in the state, as the party had been ruling the state for several decades.

"What did the Congress do for the UP youth when it was in power for so many years? It is the Congress which is responsible for such a state of affairs," he asked the media. Thackeray alleged that Gandhi was ill-informed about the past and he was making such statements for his political gains.

He pointed out that the people of UP must ask Rahul what the Congress had done for the state in the past years. Adding to that, he commented, "after all, every member of the Gandhi family, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and even Rahul himself have been elected from UP."
